Alma Hackney's rum cake

Our hand's-down favorite (among our family AND our customers): Alma Hackney, my buddy Dwight’s church choir director, made a mean rum cake for her friends—she’d send Dwight’s dad into the store for the booze while she waited in the car. Alma’s gone now but left her recipe with us, and we promised not to change a thing. The New York Times and Garden & Gun Magazine love our rum cake! A little bit of rum inside a buttery yellow cake, with a rum glaze brushed all over—enough to soak through and still put a crackly finish on top. Please know that we ship only on Mondays and Tuesdays to avoid having our goods sit in a UPS shipping warehouse over the weekend.
